The concept starts expending over the entire globe from Europe to Asia, America, and Africa.
The division of labor contributed to the creation of several new technologies which nowadays still exist.

Imperialism
In the 13th century, the world was multipolar : Multiple centers of power.
In 14th and 15th centuries, Western powers transformed the multipolar world into a monopolar world.
These new Empires were different from earlier ones in history.
Imperial powers maintained their control over their colonies through several means

Electronic imperialism

Global media flows
After the independence of the colonies, the US became the power center of the world; its main source was the economy rather than the military.

USA looks at its media exports like any other product but other countries are more concerned about the cultural influence of those films and its mainly due to their colonial experiences

The media flow was unbalanced that’s why some nations asked for the implementation of the NWIO.

Transborder data flows
TDF effects:
1)Developed countries (the U.S)
- Free trades lead to ever increasing global division of labor as businesses keep seeking locations with cost advantages which in turn increases overall productivity.

- The brain of exchange operations is located in the U.S, while factories are being implemented in the countries of periphery.
2) Developing countries:

- Mainly exporting raw materials.
- It is believed to have undermined the essence of sovereignty and the local economy of the country.

Emerging networks structures

Because internet is accessible to all it can be labeled as a democratic tool of communication
Only Rich countries access internet (16% of the world’s population)
Most transaction regardless the importance is done through internet

Toward a new world system

If the USA falls, will the center of power go to another country? Or will there be an emergence of a multipolar world like that of the 13th century?
